Biography
Alick Wickman, a Solomon Islander renowned for his high diving and development of the Australian crawl swimming style, gained legendary status in Melbourne in the mid-1890s. Nearly 80 years later, another Australian Crawl emerged from Melbourne, this time in the form of a rock band. The band, led by James Reyne, stood out as a unique presence in the punk-dominated Australian music scene with their Beach Boys-inspired sound and lyrical depth, achieving immense success with their debut album "The Boys Light Up."
The band's combination of breezy tunes and dark lyrical themes resonated with audiences, propelling them to the top of the Australian pop charts with all four studio albums and their EP reaching the Top 5. The Crawl's success, lasting 104 weeks on the charts with their debut album alone, solidified their place as one of Australia's most successful musical acts, showcasing a rare level of achievement in the country's music history.
