Biography

Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval is known for his blazing, technically flawless performances that span jazz, classical, and Cuban music. Rising to fame in the '70s with Irakere, Sandoval caught the attention of jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie, who became his mentor. Defecting to Florida in the '90s, Sandoval's career continued to soar, earning multiple Grammys, including Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for his 2012 tribute to Gillespie.

Sandoval's journey from the Cuban National School of the Arts to international stardom is highlighted by his collaborations with Gillespie, defection to the US, and subsequent success in various musical genres.
