Arthur Russell

Arthur Russell was a versatile musician known for his work as a cellist, composer, songwriter, and producer. His career spanned collaborations with notable figures like Allen Ginsberg and Philip Glass, as well as involvement in Manhattan's downtown performance scene of the '70s. Russell's innovative contributions to disco and dance music, notably through his work with the Sleeping Bag label, helped shape the underground club sound that influenced genres like house and garage music.

Moving from Iowa to San Francisco in the early '70s, Russell studied Hindustani music before settling in New York, where he made waves with his disco singles and experimental releases under various aliases like Dinosaur L. His album "World of Echo" showcased his unique blend of cello and vocals, bridging the gap between his diverse musical pursuits. Despite his relative obscurity during his lifetime, Russell's posthumous releases like "Another Thought" have solidified his legacy as a pioneering figure in the music world.
