Archers of Loaf

Archers of Loaf, part of the Chapel Hill indie scene, gained indie fame in the '90s with their edgy yet accessible sound reminiscent of bands like Pavement and Sonic Youth. Their early albums, including Icky Mettle and Vee Vee, showcased their noisy guitars and abstract lyrics, while later works like All the Nation's Airports and White Trash Heroes saw them experimenting with smoother production and new sounds. After disbanding in 1998, the group reunited in 2011 for live performances and released their first studio album in 24 years, Reason in Decline, in 2022, showcasing a more nuanced and melodic approach.

Formed in 1991 in Chapel Hill, Archers of Loaf quickly gained attention with hits like "Web in Front" and albums such as Vee Vee. Despite offers from major labels, the band chose to remain independent, continuing to develop their unique sound. After disbanding in 1998, the members pursued other projects before reuniting in 2011. A documentary and live album captured their reunion, leading to reissues of their back catalog. The release of Reason in Decline in 2022 marked their return to the studio, followed by a North American tour in support of the album.
