Aphrodite

Gavin King, known as Aphrodite, is a prominent figure in the jump-up style jungle music scene, characterized by high-energy drum'n'bass beats tailored for the dancefloor. His tracks feature rolling drum loops, powerful basslines, and a mix of hip-hop and ragga samples. Aphrodite gained popularity in 1995 when top DJs like Hype and Zinc started playing his tracks, which bridged the gap between ragga and jump-up styles. He released chart-topping hits like "King of the Beats" and "Woman That Rolls" on his own label, Aphrodite Recordings, as well as collaborations with Mickey Finn on tracks like "Bad Ass" for Urban Takeover. Known for both official remixes and bootleg jungle versions, Aphrodite's work can be explored in the comprehensive 1997 compilation Aphrodite Recordings and his 1999 self-titled American debut.

Throughout his career, Aphrodite has curated mix albums like Full Force and Takeover Bid: Round One, with the latter reissued in 2001 as part of the Mixer "Rewind" series. In 2002, he released Aftershock, his first album under a distribution deal with V2 Records. His influential discography showcases his signature jump-up sound, blending elements of ragga and hip-hop to create music that captivates audiences and dominates dancefloors worldwide.
