Antonio Aguilar

Antonio Aguilar was a renowned Mexican singer and actor, known for recording over 150 mariachi albums and starring in 167 feature films over a career spanning more than 50 years. Born on May 17, 1919, in Villanueva, Mexico, Aguilar began his career as a teenager in Los Angeles before returning to Mexico to pursue mariachi music and acting. He gained immense popularity in both Mexico and the U.S., with notable achievements including a sold-out six-night run at Madison Square Garden in 1997.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Aguilar became a leading figure in Mexican cinema, often portraying cowboy balladeers and promoting the charro tradition. His music, including hits like "Caballo Prieto Azabache" and "Puno de Tierra," solidified his status as a superstar. Despite a decline in popularity during the 1970s, Aguilar experienced a commercial resurgence in the mid-'80s with the tambora genre. He passed away on June 19, 2007, in Mexico City, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Mexican entertainment.
