Antibalas, originally formed in 1998 in pre-gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn, started as a neighborhood dance and protest band. Over the past 24 years, they have grown into one of the world’s leading Afrobeat groups, praised for their genre-bending collaborations with music legends. Founded by saxophonist Martín Perna and including early members from the Dap Kings, the band has expanded its lineup over the years, drawing in talented musicians from the Daptone family and beyond.

In 1999, Antibalas connected with Duke Amayo, who quickly became a key member, contributing percussion, vocals, vibraphone, and keyboards. They gained recognition after releasing their second album "Talkatif" in 2002 and embarked on extensive tours across North America and Europe, performing at major music festivals. Their global reach expanded to over forty countries on five continents, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in the world music scene.
