Anouar Brahem revolutionized the role of the oud, a lute-like instrument, by using it as a solo instrument rather than just an accompaniment. Starting at a young age, Brahem studied the oud and incorporated jazz influences into his music. He gained recognition through collaborations with renowned musicians and composers, releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums that showcased his improvisational skills and unique musical vision.

Inspired by political events in Tunisia, Brahem composed thematic music that reflected the turmoil of the times. Working with producer Manfred Eicher, he released albums like "Souvenance" and "Blue Maqams," featuring collaborations with jazz musicians and orchestral elements.
