Biography

Alice in Chains, formed in the mid-'80s by Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell in Seattle, quickly gained recognition with their heavy, post-punk sound. The band's second album, Dirt, released in 1992, propelled them to multi-platinum status. Internal tensions and Staley's tragic death in 2002 led to a hiatus, with the band reuniting in 2006 with William DuVall as lead vocalist. Their subsequent albums, including Black Gives Way to Blue and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, were well-received.

Initially named Alice N Chains, the band signed with Columbia Records in 1989 and found success with their debut album, Facelift. As the grunge movement gained momentum in the early '90s, Alice in Chains adapted their sound and found further success with hits like "Would?" and the album Jar of Flies. Despite challenges and speculation surrounding Staley's personal struggles, the band continued to release music and tour, solidifying their place in the rock music scene.
