Alex Somers

Alex Somers, a versatile musician and visual artist from Baltimore, gained recognition in the 2000s as part of the experimental duo Parachute and for his collaborations with Sigur Rós and Jónsi. Somers expanded his repertoire by venturing into production, engineering, and film scoring, establishing his own studio and working with various artists throughout the 2010s. His atmospheric synth sound made its mark on the big screen with early scores for films like Captain Fantastic and Honey Boy, leading to the release of solo albums Siblings and Siblings 2 in 2021.

Studying composition at Berklee College of Music and visual art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Somers co-founded Parachute in 2003, releasing their self-titled EP and full-length album Susy. Transitioning to collaborations with Jónsi under the moniker Jónsi & Alex, they released the acclaimed album Riceboy Sleeps in 2009. Somers further cemented his reputation in the music industry by opening his own studio in Reykjavik, producing albums for artists like Sin Fang and Julianna Barwick, while also scoring films and television shows such as Captain Fantastic and Manhattan. His diverse output continued with solo releases, collaborations, and numerous film scores in subsequent years.
