Alan Watts

Alan Watts was a prominent intellectual and interpreter of Eastern philosophies in the 1960s. Born in England in 1915, Watts authored several influential works such as The Way of Zen and Nature, Man and Woman. He recorded an album with Warner Bros. in 1967, featuring Hindu traditions and drone rock music played on traditional Indian instruments. Watts later became the dean of the American Academy of Asian Studies in San Francisco and hosted the public television series Eastern Wisdom and Modern Life. He passed away in California in 1973 after a career that included writing over two dozen books and engaging in consulting work for psychiatric institutions and the United States Air Force to address issues of alienation in modern society.
