Biography

Al Hirt, a virtuoso trumpeter, was known for his classical training at the Cincinnati Conservatory and his influence from Harry James. He gained fame in the Dixieland scene in New Orleans and collaborated with Pete Fountain. While showcasing his technical brilliance and wide range, Hirt found success with instrumental pop hits in the 1960s. Despite his versatility in swing and country genres, he primarily stuck to Dixieland in live performances. Hirt's early Audiofidelity recordings and work with Fountain are considered the highlights of his career. He passed away in 1999 at his home in New Orleans.
