Akron/Family

Akron/Family, a Brooklyn-based group known for their eclectic mix of post-psychedelic rock, world music influences, and improvisation, gained recognition for their distinctive three-part harmonies. Formed in 2003 around a Brooklyn coffee shop, the original quartet signed with Young God Records in 2004, releasing their self-titled debut album a year later. They later evolved into a trio and signed with Dead Oceans, putting out albums like Meek Warrior and Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free, showcasing their dynamic and genre-bending sound.

After a period of intense touring, Akron/Family ventured to Japan to write new material, eventually recording in Detroit's historic Michigan Central Station. The resulting album, The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, was released in 2011. Subsequent releases like Sub Verses in 2013 continued to showcase the band's innovative approach to music. Tragically, co-founder Miles Seaton passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of boundary-pushing creativity within the indie music scene.
