Biography
3rd Bass, along with the Beastie Boys, demonstrated that white hip-hop artists could authentically engage with the genre, showcasing strong lyrical skills and a deep understanding of hip-hop culture. Despite only releasing two albums, 3rd Bass made a lasting impact by setting a standard for how white rappers could intelligently approach the music. Their debut album, The Cactus Album, received positive reviews and featured popular singles like "The Gas Face" and "Brooklyn-Queens." Their follow-up, Derelicts of Dialect, included the hit single "Pop Goes the Weasel," which helped distance them from the controversial Vanilla Ice and solidified their place in the hip-hop community.
After disbanding in 1992, MC Serch pursued a solo career while Prime Minister Pete Nice and DJ Daddy Rich released an album together. Neither project reached the same level of success as 3rd Bass's albums. Serch went on to work in A&R for Wild Pitch Records before starting his own label, while Nice transitioned out of music to open a baseball memorabilia store in New York. The group briefly reunited for concerts in 2000, showcasing their continued impact on the hip-hop scene.
