Brenda Holloway

Brenda Holloway, a standout Motown artist, blended Southern soul influences with the label's signature polish, earning fame with hits like "Every Little Bit Hurts" and the original version of "You've Made Me So Very Happy." Born in California in 1946, she caught the attention of Motown founder Berry Gordy with her powerful vocals and became the label's first West Coast signing, releasing successful singles and touring with the Beatles in the mid-60s. Despite feeling unfulfilled with Motown's direction, she continued to write and record music before retiring in 1968.

After a hiatus, Holloway returned to music in 1980 with a gospel album and remained popular on the Northern soul scene in England. She made a comeback in live performances in the '90s, often appearing alongside soul peers like Brenton Wood. In 1999, she signed with the Volt label to release a contemporary urban album titled It's a Woman's World, showcasing her enduring talent and relevance in the music industry.
