Biography
Bomb the Music Industry! is a ska/punk collective founded by Jeff Rosenstock in 2004 in Nassau County, NY, following the hiatus of his previous band, the Arrogant Sons of Bitches. The group's recordings were primarily produced on a home computer, with Rosenstock collaborating with a rotating cast of friends and contributors for both recording and touring. Operating in an anti-music-industry manner, the band gave away their music for free on their website, with donations welcomed instead of traditional sales. Rosenstock's label, Quote Unquote Records, also followed a donation-oriented model. They engaged fans by allowing them to create their own "official" shirts at shows using provided stencils and paint.
Throughout their early years, Bomb the Music Industry! released albums independently, allowing fans to download their music for free online. In 2007, they signed with Asian Man Records for the CD release of Get Warmer, while continuing to offer a free digital version through Quote Unquote Records. The band's inclusive ethos extended to live performances, where audience members were invited to join them on stage if they knew a song and brought their own instrument. Bomb the Music Industry!'s approach to music distribution and engagement with fans reflected their commitment to a DIY and community-focused ethos.
