Zubin Mehta

Zubin Mehta, a prominent conductor in the latter part of the 20th century, is recognized for his dynamic style while leading orchestras worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic and Israel Philharmonic. Born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India on April 29, 1936, Mehta's early musical training under his father, Mehli Mehta, a violinist and conductor, laid the foundation for his successful career. He gained international acclaim through his roles with orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic before assuming directorships with the New York Philharmonic and Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

Throughout his career, Mehta utilized classical music as a means for promoting peace, notably conducting the Israel Philharmonic during periods of conflict. His extensive discography of over 200 albums showcases a diverse range of repertoire, from Romantic orchestral works to opera and film soundtracks. Mehta's enduring commitment to music was evident in his later recordings and performances, including a 2021 release of Haydn's oratorio Die Schöpfung with the Munich Philharmonic at the age of 85.
