Biography

Trettmann ist aufgewachsen in der Fritz-Heckert-Siedlung im heutigen Chemnitz. Einst war die Siedlung das zweitgrößte Neubaugebiet der DDR: ein Ort, der für Fortschritt und Wohlstand stand, der seinen Bewohnern sozialen Status und Komfort bieten sollte. Mit der Wende änderte sich diese Sichtweise so schnell wie drastisch.

Trettmann war ein Teenager, als die Mauer fiel. Während um ihn herum Freunde und Bekannte abstürzten, entdeckte er die Musik als seinen persönlichen Fluchtweg. Schon als Kind konnte er wegen der günstigen Höhenlage des Heckertgebiets im Westradio die neuesten R'n'B- und Disco-Hits hören; später erwischten ihn Rap und Breakdance. In den frühen Neunzigern kamen dann Reggae und Dancehall aus Jamaika hinzu. Er begann, Partys zu veranstalten, zog nach Leipzig, um sein eigenes Soundsystem zu starten und schließlich auf Deutsch zu singen, so flüssig und selbstverständlich und ganz und gar unpeinlich, wie es sonst niemandem gelingen wollte in dieser Szene. Er war alleine dort, und vielleicht stieß er genau deshalb ans sprichwörtliche Glasdach seines Genres.

Was dann passierte, gehört zu den erstaunlichsten Werdegängen der jüngeren deutschen Pophistorie. Trettmann fuhr nach Berlin und machte mit seinen alten Bekannten KitschKrieg ein Lied: halb zum Spaß, halb therapeutisch. Der Rest ist Geschichte.
