Neville Marriner, a key figure in the revival of Baroque and early Classical music, founded the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in the 1950s, which gained international acclaim. Marriner, a talented violinist, collaborated with Thurston Dart and studied conducting with Pierre Monteux, leading to his renowned career as a conductor. His chamber orchestra's recordings, known for their bright sound and period performance standards, became best-selling in history, with over 300 recordings to date, including the soundtrack for the film "Amadeus."

Marriner's distinguished career also included organizing the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, guest conducting with major U.S. orchestras, and serving as music director of the Minnesota Orchestra. Knighted in 1985, he conducted globally, showcasing his vitality and precise ensemble technique.
