Formed in Oslo in 1991, Satyricon quickly established themselves as pioneers of Norwegian black metal, with chief songwriter Satyr and drummer Frost at the helm. Their early albums, such as Dark Medieval Times and The Shadowthrone, set the stage for their acclaimed breakthrough, Nemesis Divina, in 1996. Shifting away from traditional black metal, the duo continued to evolve their sound with Rebel Extravaganza in 1999 and subsequent releases like Now, Diabolical and The Age Of Nero, showcasing a unique and unapologetic approach to their music.
With their self-titled album in 2013 solidifying their status as a leading force in modern metal, Satyricon's latest release, Deep calleth upon Deep in 2017, further cements their reputation for pushing boundaries and delivering powerful, innovative music.
