Formed in Reykjavik in 2011, Icelandic trio Samaris craft atmospheric, electronic-infused music featuring percussive beats and Jófrídur Ákadóttir's haunting vocals, complemented by Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir's clarinet and Þórður Kári Steinþórsson's lush arrangements. Drawing inspiration from 19th century Icelandic poems, their enchanting melodies helped them win the 2011 Icelandic Músíktilraunir competition before releasing two EPs. Signed by One Little Indian, they garnered acclaim for their debut album and performed extensively across Europe, including notable festivals like Sonar and Iceland Airwaves. After a hiatus, they regrouped for the Sydney Festival and prepared for the release of their sophomore effort, Silkidrangar, in 2014.
