Raised in Rockland County, New York, he honed his rhyming skills during a seven-year prison stint, delving into politics and Black history. His association with Just Blaze and the establishment of Abandoned Nation laid the foundation for his music career, leading to collaborations with notable DJs and the release of successful mixtapes.

After signing with Atlantic Records under Just Blaze's imprint, Saigon's debut album faced delays, causing a temporary dip in his industry buzz. He later parted ways with Atlantic due to artistic differences, releasing mixtapes and unofficial albums while working on his official debut. In 2011, he finally released The Greatest Story Never Told on Suburban Noize Records, produced by Just Blaze, receiving positive reviews for his long-awaited album.
