Biography

Sad Lovers and Giants, a British post-punk band formed in 1980, are known for their clean yet atmospheric sound that blends chiming guitars, keyboards, urgent rhythms, and acerbic lyrics. Often compared to bands like the Chameleons and early-era the Cure, they have cultivated a cult following with their gloomy yet non-melodramatic music. Their debut album, 1982's Epic Garden Music, achieved success on the U.K. independent charts, and despite disbanding and re-forming multiple times, they have maintained their distinctive sound through sporadic releases, including 2018's Mission Creep.

Following their formation in Watford, England, Sad Lovers and Giants gained recognition with their debut releases in 1981 before signing with Midnight Music and releasing their acclaimed debut album, Epic Garden Music, in 1982. Despite disbanding briefly due to internal tensions, they regrouped in 1986 and continued to release albums and tour Europe, attracting a growing fan base. Over the years, the band has experienced lineup changes and label shifts, with their music receiving retrospective recognition through compilations and reissues. Their most recent studio album, Mission Creep, was released in 2018, showcasing their enduring commitment to their distinctive post-punk sound.
