Biography
Rhythms del Mundo is a band of Afro-Cuban musicians featured on a charity compilation series that debuted in 2006. The nonprofit project, produced by industry veterans Kenny Young and the Berman Brothers, aims to raise awareness for climate change and disaster relief in collaboration with Artists Project Earth (APE). The series includes albums such as Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba (2006), featuring Afro-Cuban versions of contemporary pop/rock hits by artists like Coldplay, U2, and Radiohead, and Rhythms del Mundo: Cubano Alemán (2008), which caters to the German-language market with covers of German pop/rock songs.
Recorded at Abdala Studios in Havana, Cuba, the albums showcase a star-studded lineup of British and Cuban artists, including Buena Vista Social Club members Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo. The third album, Rhythms del Mundo: Classics, features international contemporary pop/rock artists covering well-known hits from the past, with fewer Cuban vocalists compared to the first album in the series.
