Ramsey Lewis

Ramsey Lewis, a renowned pianist and composer from Chicago, rose to fame in the late '50s with his warm and open personality in contemporary jazz, leading to crossover success on the pop and R&B charts. Lewis, born in 1935, began his musical journey at an early age, forming the Ramsey Lewis Trio in the mid-'50s and gaining recognition with hits like "The In Crowd" and "Wade in the Water." Over the years, Lewis explored various musical styles, including R&B-influenced material and traditional jazz sounds, collaborating with artists like Earth, Wind & Fire and Nancy Wilson.

In addition to his successful music career, Lewis ventured into radio hosting and composition, receiving accolades such as the National Endowment for the Arts' Jazz Master Award in 2007. His diverse talents led to projects like the Urban Knights and writing a jazz ballet for the Joffrey Ballet Company.
