Biography

The Destouche brothers, known as the Ragga Twins, emerged as influential MCs from North London's Unity sound system in 1989. Their collaboration with Shut Up & Dance produced a series of groundbreaking dance music singles and the album Reggae Owes Me Money (1991), showcasing their fusion of dancehall, hip-hop, and jungle influences. Following a brief hiatus, they returned in 1995 with a more mainstream sound on EMI, releasing singles like "Freedom Train" and "Money" and the album Rinsin Lyrics (1995).

The Ragga Twins continued to release sporadic singles in the early 2000s and in 2008, Soul Jazz Records curated Ragga Twins Step Out, a compilation focusing on their pioneering work with Shut Up & Dance. Their legacy as key figures in the evolution of U.K. dance music remains evident in their innovative sound and lasting impact on the genre.
