Rafael Anton Irisarri is a versatile American artist known for his ambient, drone, and post-minimalist compositions that feature field recordings, bowed guitars, strings, and electronics to create dense, hypnotic soundscapes with a melancholic touch. He has collaborated with various experimental and electronic musicians and curated events for experimental music festivals. Irisarri also records ambient techno as the Sight Below and collaborates with Benoît Pioulard as Orcas. His discography includes releases on labels such as Room40, Umor Rex, and Dais Records.
Irisarri's musical journey began with his haunting debut album, "Daydreaming," in 2007, followed by his work as the Sight Below and collaborations with Simon Scott and Jesy Fortino. Despite facing a setback in 2010 when his musical gear was stolen, Irisarri received support from Ghostly and released various EPs and albums under his own name, including the critically acclaimed "A Fragile Geography." His collaborations with Leandro Fresco and solo releases continued to showcase his evolving sound, leading up to his recent releases such as "Peripeteia" and "Agitas al Sol."
