Biography

Led by gospel legend Fred Hammond, Radical for Christ dominated the charts in the ’90s and early 2000s, blending spiritual themes with funk, soul, and R&B influences. After Hammond’s departure from gospel group Commission, Radical for Christ was formed with a Detroit-area choir of young talents, releasing successful albums like The Inner Court and the Gold-certified Spirit of David, which reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. Their double-Platinum album Pages of Life - Chapters I & II achieved their first No. 1 on the Gospel Albums chart, followed by another chart-topper with Purpose By Design. Their hit song “Let the Praise Begin” from Pages of Life - Chapters I & II earned Radical for Christ a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Song of the Year in 1999, with another win in 2000 for “Power.” Both albums received Grammy nominations, with Purpose By Design winning Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year at the 2001 Dove Awards, solidifying Radical for Christ as one of the most successful gospel acts of their time.
