Radiator Hospital, led by Michigan songwriter Sam Cook-Parrott, initially started as a solo project in 2010, blending acoustic guitar punk with full-band power pop influences. Cook-Parrott eventually formed a band upon moving to Philadelphia, releasing albums like Something Wild in 2013 and Can't Make Any Promises in 2023, showcasing a mix of stripped-down guitar tunes and energetic full-band arrangements.
After various musical endeavors in Philadelphia, Cook-Parrott returned to a solo format for Radiator Hospital's self-recorded fourth album, Music for Daydreaming, in 2019. The band regrouped for their fifth album, Can't Make Any Promises, in 2023, incorporating lo-fi elements like drum machines and keyboards into their concise yet dynamic pop songs.
