Biography

Formed in 1999 at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory, the Quatuor Ébène quickly rose to prominence, winning the ARD International Competition in 2004 and the Belmont Prize in 2005. The ensemble's classical performances have garnered critical acclaim, especially in works by composers like Schubert, Brahms, Fauré, Debussy, and Ravel. In addition to their classical repertoire, Quatuor Ébène's innovative crossover arrangements, often sourced from film music, have also been well-received, with hits like their interpretations of Pulp Fiction and Philadelphia scores.

With a shift to a more mainstream audience, Quatuor Ébène released its first all-crossover album in 2010 under Virgin Classics, featuring popular arrangements like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Streets of Philadelphia. In 2020, the ensemble embarked on a 21-country tour titled Beethoven Around the World, in celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday, following the release of a complete set of the composer's string quartets. The group's unique blend of classical excellence and crossover creativity has solidified its reputation as a versatile and esteemed ensemble in the music world.
