Biography
Emerging from mid-'70s Cleveland, Pere Ubu, led by frontman David Thomas, harnessed self-destructing melodies and industrial-strength dissonance to capture the angst of their times with apocalyptic fervor. Named after Alfred Jarry's play Ubu Roi, the band formed in 1975 and released influential records like The Modern Dance and Dub Housing before disbanding in 1979, only to reunite and release albums like The Tenement Year and Cloudland in the late '80s and '90s.
Pere Ubu's journey continued with albums like Lady from Shanghai in 2013 and 20 Years in a Montana Missile Silo in 2017, showcasing their experimental and noisy sound.
