Biography
Formed in 1971 by keyboardist and vocalist Frank Brunson, People's Choice was a Philly funk band that included members such as drummer/percussionist David Thompson, vocalists Valerie Brown and Marc Reed, and guitarists Darnell Jordan and Johnnie Hightower. Debuting on the Phil-L.A. of Soul label, their hit "I Likes to Do It" reached number nine on the R&B charts and Top 40 on the pop charts. Moving to Philadelphia International, they collaborated with Leon Huff on the disco-funk hit "Do It Any Way You Wanna," their only R&B chart-topper. Despite the success, the band disbanded in the early '80s, but Thompson led a new version in the 2010s, releasing the album Jammin' Philly Style in 2017.
