P.M. Dawn, formed in 1988 by Jersey City natives Attrell and Jarrett Cordes, emerged in the 1990s with a unique fusion of singing and rapping that helped shape the R&B and hip-hop landscape. Their breakout hit, "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss," topped the charts in 1991, leading to a series of wide-scoped albums that showcased their introspective and spiritual approach to music. Despite setbacks, including the health issues of vocalist Prince Be, their influence can still be heard in contemporary music, with echoes in the work of artists like Kanye West and Drake.
Following the passing of Prince Be in 2016, P.M. Dawn transitioned into a duo with Doc G and later added K-R.O.K. to the lineup in 2018. The Cordes brothers' journey, marked by personal tragedies and musical experimentation, left a lasting impact on the industry, with their artful and sprawling albums continuing to resonate with listeners today.
