Osees, a high-energy rock & roll band led by John Dwyer, emerged as a streamlined version of his long-standing garage-punk project, Thee Oh Sees. Their music is a blend of fractured psychedelic pop, confident garage rock revivalism, and dark psychedelia, evolving over the years to incorporate elements of proto-metal and trippy prog. As the band integrated synthesizers into their sound, they reinvented themselves as Osees, delivering faster, louder tracks like those found on their 2020 album, Protean Threat. The band continued to push boundaries with releases like Intercepted Message and SORCS 80, the latter showcasing a unique approach that excluded guitars in favor of drum loops and eclectic instrumentation.

Originating from the San Francisco indie scene, John Dwyer formed OCS in the late '90s, which later transformed into Thee Oh Sees, known for their blend of garage rock power and psych-pop sensibilities. The band underwent lineup changes and musical experimentation, releasing a string of albums that showcased their diverse influences, from the heavy garage/punk rock tunes of Floating Coffin to the expansively trippy Face Stabber. After adopting the name Osees, the band continued to evolve, exploring a wide range of musical styles such as punk, prog, and electronic, culminating in the release of SORCS 80 in 2024, a record that ventured into vintage synth pop territory while maintaining their fiery punk edge.
