Biography
Newcleus, formed in 1977 as a Brooklyn DJ collective known as Jam-On Productions, evolved into a group led by Ben "Cozmo D" Cenac and known for their electro classic "Jam on It." The quartet, which included Yvette "Lady E" Cook and Bob "Chilly B" Crafton, released hit singles like "Jam-On Revenge" and "Computer Age (Push the Button)" before fading as rap music shifted towards a rock-influenced style popularized by acts like Run-D.M.C. Despite this, Newcleus' music remains influential and is preserved on compilations such as Destination: Earth - The Definitive Newcleus Recordings.
Their debut single "Jam-On Revenge" caught the attention of producer Joe Webb, leading to Newcleus' success with hits like "Jam on It," which reached the Top Ten on the R&B chart. However, their albums, including Jam on Revenge and Space Is the Place, failed to match the success of their singles. Following the decline in popularity, Newcleus continued to sporadically record and perform, with their legacy preserved through compilations and reissues. Tragically, member Chilly B passed away in 2010.
