Nevermore, a Seattle-based band, straddles the line between power metal, traditional heavy metal, and contemporary hard rock with a darker tone and high-flying vocal range of singer Warrel Dane. Formed by members of Sanctuary, they released their punishing debut album in 1995, followed by a well-received EP the next year. Their second album, The Politics of Ecstasy, showcased their technical mastery, while Dreaming Neon Black in 1999 earned critical acclaim and Album of the Year accolades, highlighting Dane's vocals. After lineup changes, Nevermore released Dead Heart in a Dead World in 2000, blending contemporary and traditional heavy sounds, and toured extensively to support the album.
