His collaboration with Rahman on songs like "Mayil Iragae" from the Tamil film "Anbe Aaruyire" and "Roobaroo" from the Hindi film "Rang De Basanti" earned him critical acclaim, including the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 2006.
