Najee, a top instrumentalist in the late '80s to mid-'90s, is a consistent favorite in the quiet storm and smooth jazz markets, drawing comparisons to Kenny G and George Howard. Influenced by Grover Washington, Jr., Najee's heavily produced albums prioritize commercial radio airplay over improvisation. Despite a formulaic approach, Najee's debut in 1987 with "Najee's Theme" marked his success in the new adult contemporary market, maintaining his niche with subsequent releases like "Day by Day" and "Tokyo Blue." On stage, Najee takes more risks and explores new territories.
