Biography

Mathias Modica, also known as Kapote, is the mastermind behind the project Munk. As a producer, DJ, vinyl collector, and pianist, Modica has founded German labels Gomma, Toy Tonics, and Kryptox. Munk's eclectic sound, blending Disco, Jazzfunk, House, and Electronica, has led to collaborations with artists like James Murphy, Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, Peaches, and more, since the project's inception in 2002.

Combining his background as a jazz piano student and bandleader with his electronic music production skills and DJ culture knowledge, Modica has crafted a unique musical universe under the Munk moniker. While Munk and Gomma Records have been on hiatus since 2018, Modica now focuses on his new project Kapote and continues to nurture the labels Toy Tonics and Kryptox.
