Biography
The Mary Jane Girls were a creation of Rick James, formed in the late '70s when he hired them as background singers for his Stone City Band. They signed to Motown in the early '80s and gained popularity with hits like "Candy Man" and "In My House." Despite their success, the group disbanded in 1987 following James' falling out with Motown.
Rick James wrote and produced the Mary Jane Girls' two albums, including hits like "All Night Long" and "Wild and Crazy Love." The group's lineup included Joanne "Jojo" McDuffie, Candice "Candi" Ghant, Kim "Maxi" Wuletich, and Ann "Cheri" Bailey, who was later replaced by Yvette "Corvette" Marine. Despite aspirations of working with other producers, the Mary Jane Girls never released a third album and officially parted ways in 1987.
