Martha Reeves, known for her earthy, gospel-infused vocals, rose to fame as part of Motown's legendary group Martha & the Vandellas. Hits like "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave" and "Dancing in the Street" solidified their success in the '60s. However, after leaving Motown for a solo career in the '70s, Reeves struggled to replicate her earlier achievements and eventually turned to performing on the oldies circuit, reflecting on her past glories.

Born in Alabama in 1941, Reeves moved to Detroit as a child and honed her singing skills in church and school.
