Maps, a project by Northampton sound sculptor James Chapman, fuses indie electronic sounds with atmospheric rock reminiscent of Spiritualized and My Bloody Valentine. Signed to Mute Records, Maps' 2007 debut garnered a Mercury Prize nomination, paving the way for evolving albums like Vicissitude and the collaborative Colours in 2019, followed by the uptempo dance sounds of Counter Melodies in 2023. Chapman's musical journey began as a classical violinist and percussionist, later transitioning to atmospheric rock and electronic music, drawing inspiration from artists like Spacemen 3 and the Beloved.
