Mahasti, born in Tehran, Iran in 1946, was a prominent Iranian singer known for her contributions to Persian traditional music. Starting her career on the radio program "Gol hâ ye Rangârang" in 1963, she quickly rose to fame with her graceful persona and enchanting voice. Alongside her sister Hayedeh, Mahasti played a pivotal role in reshaping the image of female singers in Iran.
After emigrating to the United Kingdom in 1978 and later settling in the United States in 1981, Mahasti continued to captivate audiences with her music. Sadly, in March 2007, she revealed her battle with colon cancer, eventually passing away on 25 June 2007 at the age of 60 in Santa Rosa. She was laid to rest at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in California, where her sister Hayedeh was also buried. Mahasti's legacy lives on as an icon of Persian music.
