After retiring Songs: Ohia, Jason Molina formed Magnolia Electric Co., a country-rock band named after the last Songs: Ohia record. The band's early lineup included Pete Schreiner, Mike Kapinus, Jason Groth, and Molina. Magnolia Electric Co. released Trials & Errors in 2005 and received positive reviews. The band continued to evolve its lineup and released additional albums, including Fading Trails and Sojourner. Tragically, Molina struggled with alcoholism for years and passed away in 2013 at the age of 39.

Jason Molina transitioned from Songs: Ohia to Magnolia Electric Co., a country-rock band with a changing lineup.
