Biography

Formed in 1977 by ex-Buzzcocks vocalist Howard Devoto, Magazine quickly established themselves as one of the pioneering post-punk bands. Their blend of edgy punk energy and art rock influences, showcased in theatrical live performances and poetic lyrics, set them apart. With the release of their debut single "Shot by Both Sides" in 1978, Magazine garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, paving the way for their confrontational pop-punk sound.

Despite lineup changes and mixed reviews, Magazine continued to evolve musically, releasing albums like "Secondhand Daylight" and "The Correct Use of Soap." The band achieved further chart success with singles like "Sweetheart Contract" before disbanding in 1981. Devoto pursued a solo career, while other members ventured into various musical projects. Magazine reunited briefly in 2009 for live performances and later released their fifth studio album, "No Thyself," in 2011.
