In the 1990s, numerous side projects emerged from Seattle's rock scene, with many failing to gain traction beyond a small cult following. However, standout exceptions like Temple of the Dog and Mad Season, featuring members of bands like Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and the Screaming Trees, found success. Mad Season, formed in 1994 with a lineup born out of shared struggles with substance abuse, quickly developed a strong musical bond and went on to release the gold-certified album "Above" in 1995, showcasing a blend of melancholy ballads and hard rock.

Despite their initial success, Mad Season remained a short-lived project, with plans for a second album never materializing. Following a live performance release and a tribute song, the band considered lineup changes that never came to fruition, leading to their dissolution. Tragically, the band's story was cut short by the untimely deaths of members Layne Staley and John Baker Saunders, marking the end of Mad Season's legacy in rock music.
