Mad Professor, a prominent producer in dub reggae's second generation, was influenced by Lee "Scratch" Perry. His innovative Dub Me Crazy albums helped usher dub into the digital age in the '80s, incorporating space-age tracks that expanded the genre's sonic landscape. Running his own studio and label, Ariwa, he produced top British reggae acts and became a sought-after remixer for rock and techno artists, notably completely reimagining Massive Attack's second album as No Protection.
Born Neal Fraser in Guyana, Mad Professor honed his interest in electronics from a young age, eventually founding the Ariwa studio in London. Throughout the '80s and '90s, he made a significant impact on the British reggae scene, producing hit singles and albums for various artists. His work evolved with the digital era, and he continued to collaborate with reggae legends like Lee "Scratch" Perry and U-Roy. Maintaining a prolific release schedule, Mad Professor's career spanned decades, culminating in albums like In the Midst of the Storm in 2017 and Electro Clubdubbing!! in 2018.
