Formed in the early 1990s by German multi-instrumentalist Tilo Wolff and Finnish vocalist Anne Nurmi, Lacrimosa evolved from a Wolff-centric project to incorporate Nurmi's vocals, culminating in 1999's rock opera Elodia featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. Their sound shifted towards a symphonic metal style with releases like Lichtgestalt (2005), Sehnsucht (2009), and subsequent albums drawing comparisons to Rammstein and Nightwish.
