La Sonora Ponce├▒a

Formed in 1954 by Enrique Lucca Caraballo and Antonio Santaella, Puerto Rican tropical band La Sonora Ponce├▒a gained popularity quickly, releasing their first single in 1958 with hits like "No Puede Ser" and "Tan Linda Que Era." The addition of Caraballo's son, pianist Enrique Lucca Qui├▒onez, Jr., known as Papo, in 1968, led to the release of their debut album, Hacheros Pa' un Palo, which featured the Latin classic "Amor Verdadero." The band made its U.S. debut in 1960 in New York City, solidifying their place as one of the most beloved tropical acts of all time.
