Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach, born in Eisenach in 1685, was a renowned composer and virtuoso organist. His compositions, including sacred music, organ works, and choral pieces, showcased innovative use of counterpoint and intricate complexities. Bach's musical style, incorporating religious and numerological symbols, continues to impress musicians today, with many regarding him as one of the greatest composers of all time.

Orphaned at a young age, Bach was raised by his brother Johann Christoph in Ohrdruf. He began his musical career as an instrumentalist at the Michaelis monastery in Lüneberg and later held positions as an organist in Arnstadt and Mühlhausen. Bach's tenure as court organist in Weimar and Kapellmeister in Cöthen saw the creation of numerous compositions, including the famous Brandenburg Concertos. In Leipzig, where he served as Kantor of the Thomas School, Bach composed a significant portion of his cantatas. His legacy endures through masterpieces like the Mass in B minor, created shortly before his death in 1750.
